Viral Ignorance

the best time to travel to Africa is during an Ebola scare

  1. Oh boy, do I ever feel for your bean-shaped avatar. My best friend went to Tanzania a few months ago to visit family (her grandparents are missionaries), and literally ALMOST EVERYBODY has asked her about ebola. It's been driving her INSANE.

To quote my sarcastic comment from last Monday, "Africa is just all one place, right?"

(And THAT'S ignoring that fact that her parents are smart enough to not take her somewhere where she'll catch a deadly disease.)

I think I'm gonna send this comic to her. She'll get a kick out of it.

    1. If she sees Ebola on the street, tell her to kick it in the nuts and run away. That'll show it who's boss!

    2. She's back now (was only a week long trip), but I'll keep that handy advice in mind if she goes again.

She also wasted no time in pointing out that the brouhaha in Dallas is closer to us (Ohio) than she was to Ebola.

  2. I know someone from South Africa living here in the states. When she told a person installing an appliance this, he responded,

    "Whoa. Don't give me Ebola."

She said, "Ebola is West Africa, however, we do have AIDS."

He backed away, and responded, "Be careful, don't spread that." He avoided going near her for the rest of the time installing the appliance, and kept washing his hands. He was 100% serious.

    1. Well, did he get Ebola or AIDS from her? No? Then his system clearly works.

  3. Ooh, thanks for pointing out that side benefit of Ebola idiocy! Ngorongoro has been on my bucket list for a while, time to start looking for flights!

  4. Well, when living in Singapore we received similar kind of comments, not about H1N1 (which almost grew an epidemic) or dengue (which is very common in that country) but a bloody volcano erupting on some Indonesian island thousand miles away! People in Europe tend to think that "on that side of the world" every must be near to everything else ...

    1. Thanks, glad you like them! I make them just for people like you, you know. That is to say, people who like them.

I know, it's criminal how few Greek ones there are. The fact is I only spent a few days in Greece. I'd love to go back for sure. It's on my list!

  7. Kenya and Tanzania get a bad rap, but the wildlife is just stunning! also, all the ebola is far away from them.
