Geographical Charades

Countries that look like things: Italy looks like a boot, Iceland looks like a duck, Ireland looks like teddy bear zombie, Australia looks like underwear hanging, Mexico looks like a relaxing shrimp, Vietnam looks like someone screaming being sucked into a vortex, Sweden and Finland look like a penis and balls

  1. Austria: guitar. And I have seen Sweden compared to other things (especially as it appears on euro coins).

    1. To me Austria kinda looks like a head without body and only one foot.

    2. This guy made one (link in German).
But he made it the wrong way around...

    1. True, but I don't want to get a call from any Hanna-Barbara lawyers...

    1. Ha! It does look like a chicken. I'll save that one for part 2 of this comic...

  6. Turkey: Various rectangular shaped objects.

  7. Wales is a pig's head, possibly being swallowed whole by a crocodile shaped England.

  8. Dude, you left out the North of Ireland, which would have completed the teddy bear!

    1. True - but it's a different country. I guess so are Sweden and Finland...

  9. Most of my Chinese friends explain their country as shaped like a rooster. I think this is taught in their schools, because several different sources have used the image to help me place their hometown location.

  11. The one for Vietnam is crazy inventive. How the hell does that make sense, I love it.

  14. If you turn Australia sideways it looks like a anthropomorphic-pig's head wearing a hard-hat.

  15. I'm really really really late on this one, but um . . . how did you miss Tasmania? Amanda Palmer would be so pissed.

    1. I must be missing a part one or something? Unless Tasmania is being covered by Australia.

    2. Isn't Tasmania the little drop off the underpants?

    3. Haha, oh crap you're right! But nah, I was talking about a slang term for a bit of female anatomy. The only people I've heard use it were Aussies, but I don't actually know if it's their thing or not, or even how popular it is. I just know it's far and away one of my favorite metaphors for something you might find "down under."

      The Amanda Palmer reference https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-GQ63NStxk
She communicates it much more creatively than I could. And it's a lot like China and the rooster. It's almost impossible to stop seeing it.

  16. Lolll I never thought Mexico was shaped like a shrimp. At school they tought me Mexico means "lugar del ombligo de la luna" so its shape is nothing to do with the moon :)

  18. Love your work, but I wonder do you realise how offensive your map of Ireland is to Irish people? What you have drawn is the republic of Ireland. 'Ireland' means the entire island. A map of the island would rather ruin your joke, but it would show respect to those of us Irish people who live in the north of the island.

  19. I always thought North America (as a whole) looked like a slightly-distorted Renaissance-Italian opera guy:

    Ellesmere Island - helmet
    Greenland - helmet-plume
Queen Elizabeth Islands - dude's face
    Banks Island - bearded chin
    Alaska - hand extended theatrically
Canada - chest - maybe hefting a "Canadian Shield" in his off-hand
"lower 48" minus Florida - motley pantaloons
Mexico and Florida - fancy boots (Florida is further away, or a wooden leg, maybe severely deformed)
Central America - a decorative tassel trailing from his boot...or maybe just a trail of toilet paper.
