When you're learning a language and people just talk louder at you. Typical of well-meaning in-laws

    1. I believe the joke is that, if you've married someone whose family speaks another language, they tend to use the same method of "teaching" you their language as the robot: say the same thing over and over again, loudly, in the hopes you somehow figure it out just from that. Kinda like when people try yelling at a deaf person to get them to understand. :P

    2. I don't have any foreign speaking in-laws, but that's my experience with many native speakers: if I don't understand them the first time, they tend to repeat what they said only louder and faster.
