Heavy Lifting

Learning a new language as an American is hard. Then, when you finally achieve it, you go to Europe and meet Europeans who speak several many a thousand languages. So unfair

  1. So true! Sometimes I get jealous of my friends that speak a different language at home :/

  2. I don't even like Spanish but it's the most available language to learn in America.

  4. This is very much how I feel about my aptitudes in English, and I'm European. Then again, I'm French. We suck at learning foreign languages.

    2. I doubt the French are worse at languages than the British. ;-) We can't even speak our own language half the time.

  6. This reminds me of this hilarious joke:

"What do you call a person who speaks three languages?"
    "Trilingual."
"Right. What do you call a person who speaks two languages?"
    "Bilingual."
"Right. What do you call a person who speaks one language?"
    "Monolingual."
    "Wrong. American."

    BA DUM TSHHHHHHHHH

  7. I think the joke actually goes:
What do you call a person who speaks two languages?
    bilingual.
What do you call a person who speaks one language?
    Monolingual.
What do you call a person who speaks one language, can't speak or write it that well and won't learn another one?
    Americanji.
    As told in Japan.
