...because different is good!

  1. Some people just don't appreciate differences, do they?

  2. Ugh! So much hate for these people! I was in Barcelona once, inside a pretty nice shop that sells various stuff (jewelry, as well as toys, posters and some souvenirs too) and there was this guy (sadly for me, Italian) that was asking for a map. Now... I don't know how he could have thought that a place like that could have any kind of city map (it was clearly not an info-point, nor anything like that), but the thing that got on my nerves was the fact that he was almost yelling at the shop assistant (in italian, of course, because in Spain they must speak italian) "MAPPA! UNA MAPPA" (mappa = map) as if the assistant was some kind of idiot for not understanding him. It's been years and I still want to punch the guy today.

    1. I can understand why he thought the shop was selling a city map. In my country (not Italy nor Spain), shops that sell posters or souvenirs, especially the ones in areas where tourists most likely visit, they also sell city map / city guide.

But, yes, it is annnoying when someone thinks everyone should understand their language and starts to yell and makes the local people look / feel like idiot for not understanding it. Please just hire professional guide if language is a huge barrier for you. Don't be a jerk.

    2. Italians are funny that way. Some act exactly like stereotypical American or English tourists by just yelling louder what they want to say, even when others clearly don't understand - the difference being that there's a MUCH lower chance that anyone's going to understand what they're saying!

    1. Probably not, if we are taking consideration of the bean's comment regarding the 'crazy beliefs'

    2. I'm sure Chinese tourists think we have crazy beliefs as well.

    3. To be fair, Chinese tourists think Chinese tourists have crazy beliefs. It's a vicious cycle all around.
