I even have one myself (but it's a short one).
I thought it was the most normal thing to wear one not only on big occasions. But maybe am I a little bit too much influenced by people from the town where I always go. The leather is really soft and they keep you warm without getting sweaty (the leather "breathes" not unlike high-tech materials like GoreTex).
I wouldn't wear them without underwear personally, although that might be the traditional thing to do. On a sidenote I have a knee-long one, not a short one as pictured in your comic - if you ever have the opportunity to buy or wear one, I'd recommend a knee-long one like this: http://media.neckermann.at/image/100/900/9/89/389/100_113389.jpg

The short ones are pretty rare in comparison, and mostly worn by hardcore old school traditionalist (mostly with custom embroidery of their "Trachtenverein" (club of people who maintain the and wear traditional costumes/clothes). Trachtenvereine are less exotic than it might sound, almost every rural town in Bavaria has one with distinct traditional clothes and their own embroidery etc.

... for more insider knowledge regarding south Germany feel free to contact me ;) dot becker at gmail dot com.Johanneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05884088542392109077noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6238329353013891803.post-60194793604797183022012-09-16T16:05:30.795+02:002012-09-16T16:05:30.795+02:00Wow!
