Some engender reflex feelings of elegance (as you note) or gravitas. Others make the poor individual sound like a bubbling halfwit, no matter how many PhDs they might hold. One example is how (in Western Canada at least), a man with the right British accent gives him a lot of extra credit with the women. What was interesting on that fact was the report from a friend spent most of a year in England.
